I Pity the Fool
1/2/2022
James 4:13-17
Most businesses will most likely have already devised a strategic plan for 2022, complete with goals and metrics to track their progress. Although, a church is not run exactly like a business, we do have a mission and vision and use sound accounting principles when handling God’s money. However, there is a right way and a wrong way for churches and individual believers to plan, especially as we plan for 2022, and we learn about that today.
Our New Life Crusade
12/26/2021
I Corinthians 5:17
This week many people will identify things in their life they would like to change, and so, they will make New Year resolutions accordingly! However, if they attempt to change in the strength of their own flesh, they will most certainly fail! The only way to effect lasting change in our lives is through new life in Christ. Today, we are on a “crusade” to see every person experience this new life in Christ.
Praise His Name
12/19/2021
Matthew 1:18-25
Both today, and in Bible times, parents took great care in choosing the names of their children. Often the name describes a desired character trait or some Godly purpose the parents envision for that child. Today's message is about the name that is above every other name. Jesus!
THE Event
12/12/2021
Galatians 4:4-7
In my freshman year of college , I took a speech class and was introduced to the investigational technique of asking the who, what, when, where, why, and how questions. Which I do whenever I plan an event or make an announcement about an event. In our message today, we will apply some of those questions to the greatest event in the history of the world- THE event- the birth of God’s Son and our Savior.
Singles, Married, and Intimacy
12/5/2021
I Corinthians 7:1-9
Once again the Apostle Paul is addressing a specific issue impacting the church at Corinth. Apparently, they had been influenced by the gnostics, who taught that anything associated with the physical was evil and only the spirit was good. The logical conclusion of that thinking led to the misguided teaching in the Church that celibacy should be the norm for Christians. Paul debunks that teaching!
A Free and Clear Title
11/28/2021
I Corinthians 6:12-20
Do you want to be free from some unnecessary worries? Realize that God should have a clear claim to our bodies because He created our bodies! Learning this truth could protect us from many hard consequences.
Gratitude Not Platitude
11/21/2021
James 1: 17-18
A platitude in a writing or speech is a trite, stale, commonplace saying, like us saying we will “… count our every blessing” this Thursday. But true gratitude comes from a heart that looks beyond the provisions and focuses on the “Provider!”. Look to the “Father of Lights”, this Thursday, who is the giver of every good gift and thank Him!
A Slippery Slope
11/14/2021
I Corinthians 6:9-11
People today don’t like to talk about sin. Yet, even as believers, if we drift away from God, sin can slip into our lives.
Today's message looks at a list of serious sins listed by the Apostle Paul and we will talk about God’s answer for our sin problem.
The Apostle Objects
11/7/2021
I Corinthians 6:1-8
If you watch any of the courtroom scenes on TV or in the movies, you will often hear one of the attorneys stand up and forcefully say, “I OBJECT!” to some point of law, then the judge will either sustain or overrule the objection. Well today, we will see that the Apostle Paul is standing up to object to any believer taking another believer before a worldly and unrighteous court of law.
Danger Ahead
10/31/2021
Deuteronomy 18: 9-14
When we see a “Danger Ahead” street sign, we know we will not necessarily be endangered if we proceed, but we should proceed with caution. So, when it comes to Halloween, there are aspects of it that are harmless, but there are some real spiritual dangers surrounding this holiday. Therefore, we should engage, if we choose to, but always aware of the serious dangers present and avoid these aspects. We should allow scripture and not society dictate how and if we get involved with Halloween.
A Hospital for the Sick
10/17/2021
I Corinthians 5:9-13
People go to a hospital because they are sick and should want to get better. But, if they refuse the attempts by the medical staff to administer their medical know how, then the insurance provider will put them out. Likewise, our church is a hospital for the spiritually sick, but it may reach appoint where they may have to be put out. Today, we will talk about church discipline from scripture.
Sin in the Camp
10/10/2021
I Corinthians 5: 1-5
In the Old Testament, when Joshua was to lead God’s people into the promised land, they had a great victory at Jericho, followed by a crushing defeat at AI. Why? Because God told them to take no spoils of battle, but a man named Achan took and hid some. There was sin in the camp and sin in the camp always hurts the camp. So for the next two Sundays we will talk about sin in the church and how to deal with it.
Sail On My Friend
10/3/2021
2 Timothy 4:6-8
Some would argue that the Apostle Paul was the greatest of all the Apostles! Who can say for sure? What we do know is that the Apostle Paul was used in a huge way by God. The passage we will read today is the testimony of this great man of God as he faced his imminent appointment with death. We think Brother Henry learned from his example and so can we.
The Anchor Holds
9/26/2021
Mark 4: 35-41
The early church was known to use an anchor as a symbol, and we know that because images of anchors have been found in the catacombs. The catacombs were sometimes used as places for Christians to gather during times of persecution. Obviously, these believers were in the midst of a storm, in the sense they were hiding for their lives. Perhaps, the anchor image was inspired by Hebrews 6:19, which says, “This hope we have as an anchor for the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast…” Likewise, when we are going through a storm we too need an anchor for our soul- and one we know is going to hold.
Father Knows Best
9/19/2021
I Corinthians 4:14-21
Back in my day, most movies and TV shows portraed fathers as bumbling idiots. However, there was one sitcom series entitled, "Father Knows Best," which showed a typical midwestern American family, with a father who was steady, competent and very wise. This father truly did know what was best! Today, we will look at another kind of Father, i.e. a spiritual father! Specifically, we will look at the apostle Paul and how he dealth with his "spiritual children" in the church at Corinth.
Heavenly Minded
9/12/2021
Revelation 1:1-7
Some claim that some people are "too heavenly-minded to be any Earthly good." But I think being heavenly-minded is a good thing. Especially when we lose a loved one to death. The fact that Heaven is real and our loved one is really there, is very comforting.
Way to Work!
9/5/2021
PROVERBS 6:6-11
Tomorrow is Labor Day, which is a day we set aside to honor the American worker! Our nation was founded upon the strong work ethic of our Puritan forefathers, but today we are losing that strong work ethic. The writer of Proverbs tells us to observe the little ant and her work ethic, and if we follow her example, we will be “wise.” God’s Word is a lamp to our path, and when we choose to do things God’s way, our life always turns out better!!
Jesus Proud
8/29/2021
I Corinthians 4:7-13
After the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, they used the slogan “Boston Proud”. Since then, other cities experiencing a catastrophe have inserted their name and referred to themselves as “Any City Proud.” I can see how that would unify moral for the people, but God says He hates pride. Pride is putting ourselves, other people, or other things on the pedestal that only Jesus should be on. So, the only thing a Christian should be proud of is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Jesus proud!!
Report Card Day
8/8/2021
I CORINTHIANS 4:1-6
When I was a kid, I would sometimes receive bad marks on my report card for bad behavior! I dreaded those days because I knew there would be a day of reckoning! Yet, as Christians we should understand we will all have a day of reckoning one day also. We should want to be prepared for that day.
A Reality Check
8/1/2021
I Corinthians 3:18-23
Psychologists describe what they call "delusional disorder." Basically, this is when a person is out of touch with reality. Of course, there are various degrees of severity, but we are all vulnerable to being deceived - even deceiving ourselves. We do that when we value worldly wisdom over Godly wisdom.
Temple Talk
7/25/2021
I Corinthians 3:16-17
The Greeks had the temple of Aphrodites, and the Jews had Solomon’s temple, but today the Apostle Paul is talking about another temple. Namely, the local church at Corinth. Today, we will see how the Holy Spirit abides in our church in a special way.
Gaze at Jesus
7/18/2021
Leviticus 4:1-7
The entire Old Testament sacrificial system was intended to “foreshadow” the work of our Savior on the cross! Our study today will prepare us to partake of the Lord’s Supper!
Building Tips
7/11/2021
I Corinthians 3:10-15
From time to time, the Apostle Paul would use an architectural motif as a backdrop to his message. In our main text today, Paul uses a building project to illustrate the Christian life.
The Top Tyrant
7/4/2021
John 8:31-36
If I were to ask you to list the top tyrants in modern history, most would list Hitler or maybe Stalin. Today's message talks about the biggest and baddest tyrant of all - and that would be sin. Sin is a harsh task master, but we are also going to talk about how we can be free from this tyrant.
Miracle Gro
6/27/2021
I Corinthians 3:4-9
My wife has a green thumb. She has a secret and it's called Miracle Gro. If we want our church to grow, we need some spiritual Miracle Gro. Spiritual Miracle Gro is always the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Today's meesage teaches us what a growing church should look like.
We experienced sound issues early in the recording, please fast forward to 12:38 on the video and sound is corrected there forward.
The Three Faces of Anyone
6/12/2021
I Corinthians 2:14-3:3
At any given point in a person's life, we can look into their face and see three very distinct people. Before their conversion to Christ, we could see the face of a "natural" man. After their conversion we can look into their face and see either a "carnal" man or a "spiritual" man. What would God see if He looked into our faces today?
Wise UP
6/6/2021
I Corinthians 2:6-13
Have you ever wondered why an owl is a symbol of wisdom? There are several possible explanations, but in today's message, we learn the source of true wisdom - Yahweh, the one and only true God!
Pass It On
5/30/2021
I Corinthians 2:1-5
To fully understand the sacrifice Christ made for us on the cross and then to keep it to ourselves is outright disgraceful. People who know go to people who need to know Jesus. Today's message looks at the Apostle Paul's instruction on how to do that.
Fools as Tools
5/23/2021
I Corinthians 1:26-31
Back in the 1980's there was a celebrity named Mr. T who used the expression, "I pity the fool," saying we should have mercy on the fools of the world. Well, this "fool" needs mercy, but today's scripture teaching us that God prefers to choose and use "fools" as His tools to serve Him.
Apologies for the technical issues with the sound quality.
Our Heart Compass
5/16/2021
Hebrews 13:7-9
We all know the function of a compass is to give us direction. Yet, the compass is based on finding true North, which is the one fixed point at the north pole that gives orientation from any point on this spinning planet. The point is, Jesus Christ and HIs Word are the Christian's true North!
M.O.M.
5/9/2021
Mark 7:24-30
There are at least 20 qualities of a Godly woman mentioned in Proverbs 31. However, the one I want to focus on today is that "she looks well to the ways of her household." Today's message looks at an example of that kind of Mom.
The Kingdom of God
5/2/2021
Matthew 20:1-16
Emmanuel Lalfelkima, our mission's pastor, brought today's message.
Wise Men Still Seek Him
April 25, 2021
I Corinthians 1:19-25
Our message is a play off of the Chritmas story when th ewise men or Magi followed the star to find Christ. However, we do not seek that kind, or any other kind of worldly wisdom. We seek God's Diven wisdom. Our text today shows the difference between these two kinds of wisdom.
Via Dolorosa
4/18/2021
I Corinthians 1:18
The Via Dolorosa literally means "the way of sorrow" and it describes the route our Lord took on His way to His death on the cross. Today's message focuses on that day as we prepare to observe the Lord's supper.
United We Stand
4/11/2021
I Corinthians 1:10-17
This is the first message in a new series "Doing Church Right" from the book of 1st Corinthians. This epistle is written by the Apostle Paul to address issues being experienced by the Corinthian church. The first issue, which we cover today, was disunity in the church.
Alive and Outside
4/4/2021 - Easter Sunday
I Corinthians 15:20-26
In one of our staff meetings, we chose to refer to this special day as "Live and Outside" because we were going live and we were definitely outside. The title of this message reflects the fact that our Savior is definitely "alive" today and He affirmed it when He walked "outside" that tomb. Let's celebrate our risen Savior today!
Invite Fright
3/28/2021
John 1:35-42
Christians have several reasons to not share their faith. Most reasons are rooted in some form of fear. Our message looks at the example of Andrew as he demonstrates an entry level way to witness - the power of a personal invitation.
Great Expectations
3/21/2021
Acts 12:11-17
Once, the Apostle Peter was in jail awaiting a trail for his life. Meanwhile, a group of believers from the church were praying for his deliverance. Once he was delivered and came to them, they were amazed that their prayers were answered. They were praying ferventantly, but not expectantly. We must learn to pray expectantly.
Doing a Soil Test
3/14/2021
Mark 43-9
Every farmer or gardner knows they have to prepare the soil to have a harvest of fruit. Likewise, the human heart is like soil in that it must be prepared to receive the implanted Word of God.
Celebrating 20 Years
3/7/2021
In Celebration of Pastor Randy's 20 years at South Park, we had a very special celebration service today.
After a phenomenal time in praise and worship, Pastor Will Milbry of Good Shepherd Baptist Church brought our message today. The link below is for the entire service.
Many thanks to those who planned and participated in the service as well as the many encouraging words and sweet messages to Pastor Randy.
Fruit Matters
2/28/2021
Luke 13:6-9
Since black lives matter has arrived on the scene, their name has spawned other names and slogans. As Christians, our spiritual fruit matters to God.
An Assortment of Anger
2/21/2021
Ephesians 4:26-27
Normally, we think that the only sinful expression of anger is when a person "blows up." However, today's message addresses how that anger can be expressed in an assortment of ways such as when we "bottle it up" and hold a grudge or when we back up and back away being passive aggrressive but we still hold on to the anger.
Rebirth of a Nation
2/7/2021
Ezekiel 37:1-14
This prophecy predicts that a decimated and defeated Israel will one day be regathered to the land, restored politically, and revived spritually. Once again proving that Israel is a very important part of God's plan.
Tzedakah Ministries
2/7/2021
Message from Dr. Amy Downey on Tzedakah Ministries. This ministry exists to equip local churches to reach the Jews, God's chosen people.
Converse Sunday
1/31/2021
2 Corinthians 5:17
Many of us today are wearing our Churck Taylor Converse shoes, just for fun! Let me use our Converse tennis shoes to segway into today's message. One definition of converse is "something reversed in order, relationship or action." Our message today discusses this concept as it describes the new birth experience.
Attention Please
1/3/2021
Hebrews 12:5-11
Trials and suffering are often God's way of getting our undivided attention, like nothing else can. They have a way of causing us to slow down and ask questions that we are normally too busy to ask. Today's message answers our questions from God's Word.
Fear Relief
12/27/2020
Ephesians 6:10-20
How do we deal with fear and persecution? Recognize the source - Satan. It is a spiritual fight, so we must be equipped for this spiritual fight. In today's message we learn from the Bible that God provides what we need to be properly equipped.
The Shepherd's Slant
12/20/2020
Luke 2:15-20
Most of us have heard the Christmas story, many times, and we have heard it from the perspective of many people. Today's message looks at the Christmas story from the perspective of the shepherd.
