I suspect everyone experiences discouragement from time to time. Life is hard! Whenever we put the prefix “dis” in front of a root word, it negates the root word. So dis-couragement means no courage, People who have lost their courage cannot win the fight because they don’t even want to enter the fight. Now, there are levels of discouragement. Sometimes, but not usually, it may reach a level of despair, even for believers. Even the great man of God, Moses, once was so discouraged he said, “Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families…and Moses was also displeased. And Moses said unto the Lord, wherefore thou has afflicted the servant?... Have I conceived all this people?…Have I begotten them? I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. And if thou deal thus with me, kill me…” Wow! That is deep discouragement! So what is one to do? Well, we turn to the Lord in prayer, when we feel that “heavy feeling” coming on. Cry out to Him! Pour out our heart to Him, raw emotions and all. The Psalmist David once said, “Attend unto my cry, for I am brought very low. Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name.” Or maybe it could be a very simple prayer like, “Help me Jesus! I can’t handle this without you! Amen!”.
