Excuses, Excuses

The Bible was written centuries ago, yet it is as relevant today as today’s headlines.

Yesterday, during my quiet time, I came across Luke 14: 15-24 and I thought Luke was talking about the church today. You see there was a “big dinner” being served, and the host “invited many”!  Now who was going to be blessed by this wonderful meal? The host? No!  Those who were going to be blessed were the ones being invited.  Yet, one after the other had an “excuse” to not come and receive this blessing.  “I bought a piece of land and need to look at it.” “I bought five oxen and need to try them out.”  “I just got married, I am out.”   Excuses, excuses, the devil has a million of them!

So the host sent his people out into the highways and byways and told them to compel the “poor, crippled, blind and lame” to come in and be blessed!  Wow! Who missed out on the blessing? Clearly it was the invitees who had an excuse to not come.  What struck me is how often today Christians are invited to come and join in the blessings of serving in God’s Kingdom, and they have an excuse and decline.  Someone will be blessed, but just not the excuse maker.

Excuses, excuses the Devil has a million of them!   Don't let it be you who is missing out on God's blessing.
