Ice Cream or Clay?

Life brings many circumstances our way.  How do we view those circumstances and how do we ultimately respond?

During premarital counseling, and often during the wedding ceremony itself, I like to point out the great passage of scripture in Mathew 7: 24-28. Then I try to point out that if this couple will build their lives, their marriage, and their family on the solid rock, who is Jesus Christ, then when the rain and wind and storms of life come (and they certainly will), they will stand! But if they build their lives and marriage and family on anything else then when the rain and wind and storms of life come, they will fall!  Yet, I have witnessed professing Christ-followers respond differently when the trials of life come their way. Some seem to turn to and sprint to the Lord, whereas others tend to run away from God and His body, the church!  Why is that?  Same identical life circumstance, two believers, but two different ways of responding to the trial.  Is it about faith, or is it a person’s perspective on the circumstance?  Do they feel humbled and ready to cast their care upon the Lord and trust Him, or do they try push through on their own and rely upon themselves?

Melting Ice Cream/ Hardening Clay

It was once said, “The same sun melts the ice cream and hardens the clay.” We can’t always change our circumstances, but we can decide how we are going to respond to our circumstances.  I Peter 5: 7 says, “…casting all your anxiety upon on Him because He cares for you.” This is a picture of us allowing our burden to roll off of our weak shoulders and onto His strong shoulders!  Let it roll my friend!
