When God’s people were about to cross over into the Promised Land, the Lord said to His people, “But the land into which you are about to cross to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys… Now I know that is intended to simply be a description of the topography in the Promised Land, but it reminds me of the Christian life! The Lord never promised us the Christian life would be easy. In fact we should realize we will go through some valleys or hard stretches of time. Why? Because we learn lessons in the valleys we would never learn on the mountaintops. Think of the wonderful Psalms which the Holy Spirit used David to write- which never would have happened if David didn’t find himself in some valleys. Those are the times of refining fire in which we grow in our faith and are better able to help others going through the same valley. Plus, think about this. What if life was one continuous mountaintop experience? Then we wouldn’t appreciate them as much. So in order to appreciate the mountaintops of happiness, we must go through the valley of trials. I pray each one reading this will remember what some people say, “… this too will pass”, ( not a Biblical quotation), and when it does there will be a huge blessing awaiting you at the other side of the valley.
