What is Right?

Yesterday, a gunman walked into a church in the middle of a service and murdered two people. Subsequently, a church member used his gun to take the intruder out before he could kill others.  As a Christian, is that right?

We all know the Bible says, “You shall not murder.” Exodus 20:13  Yet, we know that does not say “you shall not kill” because the scripture allows for capital punishment, a just war, etc,, but what about self defense? Were the members at the White Settlement Church right to take the gunman’s life to protect their church family?  YES!!  Psalm 82:4 says, “Rescue the weak and the needy, deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.”  Proverbs 24:11 says, “Deliver those who are being taken away to death, and those who are staggering to slaughter, OH! HOLD THEM BACK.”

We realize that human life is sacred, because we are all created in the image of God.  There are times however, when the taking of one life to protect more lives is justified for a Christian.  Join me as we lift up this congregation in our prayers as well as the families of those whose lives tragically ended.
